Ken Seaman

1953 - 2011

Graduated to a new life on December 6

Although this photo was taken in June 2010 when Ken graduated from a program with the Asheville Police Department, it epitomizes Ken for those of us who worked with him at WNC Group Homes.

I so appreciate Ken for becoming a part of this agency. He always went "above and beyond" what was asked of him in his job as Facilities Manager. Not only did he care about the facilities, he cared deeply about the residents and the staff. Ken also promoted the agency and consistenly helped out with fundraisers.

Ken is one of the best all around men that I have ever had the privilege of knowing.

It always amazed me how Ken could seem to be in several different places at once. I would call with an issue and he would be on it as quickly as he could with a smile on his face. I have never met someone so dependable. It was also comforting to know that Ken was willing to go out in many a snowstorm to pick up staff for work so we would not be short handed. That simple act alone eased the minds of all of us who are on call in the wintertime. We will miss you more than you will ever know Ken.

I miss Ken's sense of humor, positive spirit, and many kindnesses to all.

My first task as the new Executive Director for the agency in 2006 was to hire a Facility Manager. I did a few interviews and then met Ken. Needless to say the best candidate for the position was chosen and Ken started work a short few weeks after I did. I could not give him much direction as I was finding my way in my own position. It did not take Ken long to figure out what he was doing and he began to build protocols and a management structure for our buildings and vans. Ken developed relationships with our vendors and was able to get emergency situations under control in a timely fashion always thinking of the residents and their safety and comfort. Ken came to work every day with a pleasant attitude and a smile. He worked hard and took pride in his work. He always wanted the best for the agency. Ken made his job look easy and little seemed to frustrate him. He will be remembered for these things and will be missed.
